My Kid Hates Brushing Her Teeth. What Can I Do to Change That?
Jump to Section:
Here are some tips that our dentist in Grande Prairie, AB recommends to parents who are looking to improve the oral hygiene habits of their children:
Incentives
Make some small incentives for the kids to brush their teeth. Go for a fun outing or for a special treat if they manage to brush their teeth twice a day for two weeks straight. You could put a calendar in the bathroom and do check marks once they brush their tooth so they can see the positive movements as well.
Timers
Some kids love having a timer! Oral-B makes a toothbrush that talks to a smartphone and will show how long you have been brushing, etc. The other thing you could do is get a two minute hourglass for them to use. This way they can look and see how long is left to brush and can keep being encouraged!
Positive Reinforcement
Positive reinforcement is a great way to help your kids learn they need to brush their teeth. Help them out with it and then congratulate them on a good job and watch them beam with happiness!
Being a Role Model
Kids do great when they see their role models (mom and dad!) doing what they’ve been asked to do. One way to do it is to have a family toothbrushing time so they see that you’re brushing just like you’re asking them to do!
