Meet Dr. Smith
About Dr. Curtis Smith
Dr. Smith has lived in the Peace Country for the past 40 years. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Since then he has always enjoyed serving a wide range of patients, in both age – from children to seniors – and a vast variety of dental needs and concerns. Dr. Smith feels blessed to have served multiple generations of the same families over the years.
Exciting research over the last decade is revealing a connection between airway, dental muscle and joint function and how the bite and tongue space can impact this. New conservative solutions are emerging and Dr. Smith has focused considerable effort on learning and applying this knowledge in this area from many courses and studies. Through his career, he has also used conservative bonding techniques on hundreds of patients to improve the esthetics and function of front teeth, which can be modified over time as needed.
An avid supporter of community, Dr. Smith has been involved in the areas of sports and music in Grande Prairie, and was awarded the George Repka award by the City in 2015 for Outstanding Contribution to the Community.
After helping develop both facilities and programs for the 1995 Canada Winter Games, he was the co-founder and an avid supporter of the Northern Extreme Freestyle Ski program which produced 4 National Team members and over 15 World Cup medals.
Dr. Smith created scholarships, and was involved in facility development for local musicians, at the local college level, and at studios in town, often doing recording sessions at his own home! A very competent Jazz/Pop/Soul musician primarily focusing on keyboards, Dr. Smith has enjoyed working with several Juno award-winning artists in the areas of composition, arrangement, and recording, and is proud to see the Grande Prairie music scene continuing to flourish, with four artists receiving Juno nominations recently.
With three children raised here and now out in the world, Dr. Smith still calls Grande Prairie home. Outside of the clinic, you may find him making music with any variety of local artists, including his wife, walking, biking, hiking, skiing, or playing racket sports such as squash or pickleball.
