Are You Looking For Dental Implants?

A dental implant can be used to replace one or more teeth that are missing in your mouth. When you’re missing a tooth completely, it can be difficult to feel confident in your appearance as well as chew and eat properly. Rather than wear a prosthetic appliance or have a bridge placed, the implant can work independently to replace both the crown and root portions of a tooth.

The reason you may need or even want to have an implant placed is because you are missing a tooth. When you’re completely missing a tooth, your confidence may be affected and you might have issues chewing and eating your favorite foods. Implants actually fuse with the jawbone itself, so they are durably in place after just a few months. Your new implant can then be used to hold crowns, bridges and even full dentures.

Most patients are good candidates for dental implants and can safely have the procedure done in our office. We will examine your mouth and take x-rays to help in identifying whether or not the implant can be placed. There needs to be enough solid, healthy bone in the area where the implant will be placed. If you have bone loss, bone grafting may be needed to build up the area.

The procedure begins with sedation or anesthetic of your choice. We then make a small incision through the gums and drill a tunnel-like hole through the actual jawbone. The titanium implant’s post is placed and you’ll be given instructions on how to care for it over the next few months. You’ll come in several times so that we can check to ensure the implant is healing properly. Once the implant fuses with the jawbone, we can make a restoration that will sit over top of it.
